Hi Bloomers!
I hope you’re all having a lovely week and winding down from summer as we finally start seeing some nice weather (or at least here in Nova Scotia).
There has been such limited time spent physically IN my garden this year, with all of the rain we had, I hardly had to water it all season.
Every year I worry ‘what if I put in all of this effort and I don’t yield anything?’, especially this year with the ups and downs in the weather I began to think I wouldn’t have anything to use for my winter canning stock. Though my husband will tell you he also reminds me every year of our house being lined up with veggies we’re ripening, haha!
I guess now is the time to say, he was right again… Four trips this week to the garden and four sizeable harvests:

I’m not sure if it’s my preference for instant gratification or the long wait form seed to harvest, but my favorite time is the end of summer when all of the crops start to pop up for picking at the same time. A nice fall harvest when the plants go from bushy and green to twiggy with red bulbs.

When the abundance is more than we can eat or give away, I get started on filling our cabinets for winter by making tomato sauce and salsa. With my first batch of tomato sauce, it gave me 5 jars to start the stock!

Things just seem to taste better when you’ve watched them grow.
Here’s to a tough season that tests your skills and determination, and winds up being worth it, everytime!
Looking forward to the next canning session when we make some spicy salsa (my personal favorite)!
Catch yah later Buds!
