Hi Bloomers!
I hope you’re all having a fantastic start to summer and being environmentally safe!
Now that we have our seedlings transplanted out into their summer homes and our marigolds out doing their job to help keep the past pests away, I thought it would be a great time to share a money saving trick I use to have a good supply of marigolds each year!
As marigolds grow, they develope a lovely firework esque bloom that will eventually close back up a bit, once it’s had its full bloom. Once the bloom is shriveled up, it’s time to ‘dead head’ and collect those seeds!

Once you have your old bloom off the stem, you can simply pull the end of the petals to reveal our seeds!

These long stick bottoms are our marigold seeds!
Now we can seperate them from the petals and get them ready for storage (I’ll share a link below to my seed storage case that I purchased from Amazon). I like to keep them in my seedling case once dry with the non air tight containers, for next year’s garden.

This is such a lovely way to grow your garden from year to year from your own plants!

Stay tuned for an apple update and the next big garden helper, Lady Bugs!

This is such helpful information. I never knew this about the seeds.
I didn’t know until recent years as well, and so easy now that we know!
This is so cool I never knew !!!
I’ll save some so you and the kids can harvest your own too
